ISSUE THREE

MARCH 2007

Hi there

We’re not sure whether we’re on a different time zone in Wales but months seem to only be a week long.  Where does time go when you’re busy?

We’ve had another busy month and from the visitors’ book comments it seems we are getting things right.  We’ve put a selection of them on our website for all to see.

The weather is still good and the birds are everywhere.  As well as the regular birds we get on our bird table we’ve also seen a wood pecker and a barn owl in the trees.

On the Mount we’ve got a carpet of daffodils, crocus and snow drops with blue bells due soon.  It’s a beautiful walk to the end where we look out to the sea.

Our guests have been enjoying the good spring weather, making the most of the local walks and the tourist attractions being quieter at this time of the year – not to mention our roaring log fire! Do come and visit us at Plas Dinas soon...

Kind regards

Andy & Julian

Full Steam Ahead

New Deluxe Room

It’s a sign that spring is here when the Welsh Highland Railway increases the frequency of services.  The new timetable from April to October has been issued and we have a few if anyone would like to be sent one.

Our builders are making good progress on our new Deluxe hotel room – the Major’s Room.  The shower room is nearly finished, with its plush double sized shower and a partition wall comes down this week, creating a good sized suite.  By the end of next week it will be ready to decorate.

The restored narrow gauge railway runs directly under the end of our drive so it's lovely to walk up the drive and watch the steam trains chug along the track and under the bridge.

Dinas Station is only a quarter of a mile from the end of our drive and it is a beautiful walk and an ideal way to travel to a nearby town.  Come between 11th and 13th May and have the opportunity to drink from a large selection of real ales at the Real Ale Beer Festival being held at Dinas station.

Look out for the new room on our website.  It should be ready to book on-line in a few weeks’ time. Until then, the picture above shows an artists impression of how the new room will look. As you can see it will be a contemporary twist on a traditional room, with black and white being the predominant colours, whilst keeping the impressive 4-poster bed.

Flower Power
Digital Age
Home Comforts

It’s been a busy month for our gardener Russell who has been planting lots of new plants in the borders ready for the summer. The huge lawns have already been mown several times!

Years ago, there was an entrance charge to our gardens as they were so beautiful! We’d like to restore some of that former beauty and recreate more of the ornamental flower borders and themed garden areas.

To help us in our mission, Bernard Williams, the gardener from twenty years ago was kind enough to come and see us and tell us all about how the garden used to look.  He was also able to tell us more about how things used to be inside the house.

One of the first things we noticed moving here was the rather poor TV reception.  Not only was the picture fuzzy but we only got BBC 1 & 2, ITV and S4C (in Welsh!).  Having only three English channels was like going back to the ‘70s.

The good news is that we’ve now had the whole hotel rewired for Digital.  Every room now has an excellent picture on their TVs and we soon plan to have the full range of digital channels available in all rooms.

We’ve already made a start on replacing the TVs – with the Superior and Deluxe rooms gaining a 23” LCD TV with over 30 digital channels.  Feedback so far from guests has been excellent.

Our Deluxe rooms now come with slippers... these comfortable additions keep your feet warm on the tiled bathroom floor as well as helping you feel right at home.  We’re also in the process of upgrading our complimentary toiletries – more news on those next month.

Weddings...

We’ve been busy working on our wedding package.  We have teamed up with local quality suppliers and can now offer marquees, caterers and photographer that we know and trust. We can offer a one stop shop to the happy couple and remove the hassle of trying to find suppliers themselves.
