The weather is turning, the leaves are dropping and autumn is upon us.  It’s not all doom and gloom though.  We have a couple of winter weddings to look forward to, there’s Christmas and of course our great news hot off the press!

Don’t forget that we can sort out all your Christmas present worries, and if you fancy getting away for the Christmas period, we still have availability for self-catering on a large or small scale.

We already have a long list of renovations to keep us busy throughout winter.  We’re re-vamping the Mount Room along with decorating the hall, stairs and landing.  West Wing Cottage will get its new kitchen and somewhere in between that we’re completely re-designing the website.  Before we know it, it’ll be Easter again!

As you’ll read, we’ve been incredibly busy over the last few months working towards attaining a 5 star grading.  We’ve removed our Classic grade of room as these have been upgraded to the Superior standard.

WHR Link-Up - Finally!

The new line will open to passengers in April 2011, but last weekend special trains were laid on for those who've helped contribute more than £2m towards the restoration work and the volunteers who gave up their time to lay the track.  Many of our guests that weekend were amongst the lucky few.

For the first time, the Welsh Highland Railway will carry passengers along the whole length of the newly-laid line between Caernarfon and Porthmadog.  When linked up with the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog's Harbour Station, it will be possible to travel by steam for almost 40 miles through the Snowdonia countryside.

The trains will run down the tramway section on Porthmadog's High Street for the first time since the original railway closed 79 years ago.

Don’t forget the WHR runs under the end of our drive and can be caught at our local station in Dinas less than a mile away.

We’re renting out Plas Dinas on a self-catering basis again this Christmas (New Year is already booked).

If you are a large family or group of friends and would like to get together over the festive period, you can have the free reign of our 5 star country house and its ten luxury ensuite bedrooms (sleeping 20). The house will be decorated beautifully as usual with Andy’s huge twinkling tree in the Drawing Room.  It looks great in winter with the fire roaring away.

Now that Classic rooms are no more, all bedrooms have been improved and all now have a seating area – either a sofa or comfy tub chairs.  All rooms have their own additional controllable heating, gowns and slippers and of course our new Molton Brown luxury toiletries. 

If you want ultimate luxury, our Princess Margaret suite now comes with feather and goose down duvet, pillows and mattress topper, a coffee maker with a selection of drinks, complimentary soft drinks in the mini bar and extra Molton Brown goodies. 

We also supply an iPod with a movie library.  It’s the kind of room you just won’t want to leave!

Yes, we did it – after working long and hard (and spending lots of money) over the summer we’ve achieved the 5 star grading we were hoping to get.  We had an anonymous visit from a hotel inspector from Visit Wales and an announced appointment by the AA.  Both agreed that we were very worthy of 5 star.  We just need to wait until May to find out if we will be in the top 10% of the country within that category to win a Highly Commended award from the AA again as we did last year for 4 star.

We are really proud.  To achieve 5 stars, we had to attain an excellent mark in all areas of cleanliness, hospitality & friendliness, quality of bedrooms & bathrooms, and the quality of breakfast.  Andy also retains his Dinner Award from the AA.

We’ve been in the news again lately.  We had a great write up in the North Staffordshire Magazine and Candis Magazine, and Andy was featured in the Daily Post (our local newspaper for North Wales) last week with his famous Mushroom soup recipe.
