ISSUE 16

JUNE 2010

Hi everyone

Spring has been and gone, with a huge variety of daffodils and then our fantastic display of bluebells providing a blanket of blue in all directions.  Following the work we did in the garden last year to cut back more areas of overgrowth, the display was better than ever – so much so we’re thinking of having "Snowdrop and Bluebell" weekends next year.  The leaves are all on the trees, the lambs are getting larger (think lamb shank with mint gravy! – sorry veggies!!) and we’ve cleaned the pond out too complete with bigger fountain.  The sun has been glorious these last few weeks and we’re looking forward to a long hot summer!

Our Spring Break offer proved very successful so we’ve launched a sizzling June offer along the same lines with B&B from just £39 per night - so there is no excuse for a quick break!  You can check out all the latest deals on our “Special Offers” page.

Talking of the good weather we’ve been having we were looking at some data the other day which proves what a great place North Wales is to holiday.   Did you know that Caernarfon is hotter than the Lake District, has less rain than Dorset, is not as cold as the Yorkshire Dales, and has less frost than Rhos on Wye and Oxford?  So what are you waiting for?  See you soon!

Warm regards,

Andy, Julian & Patsy!

PS
Breaking News!  We have just found out we’ve been awarded 4 yellow stars by the AA (meaning we are “highly commended” and in the top 10% for our category.

Improvements to our Grounds

Royal Visit

With large grounds like us, the maintenance never really stops.  We’ve been speaking with an arborist recently with a view to sorting some of our trees out.  There are several which are unfortunately in line for being chopped down before they get blown down.  We have one you can see daylight right through!

He is also planning to thin out the growth and dead branches from other trees where needed.  At the same time, we plan to start a programme of re-planting new trees in various areas to maintain the look of the grounds for generations to come.

Andy has been hard at work in the garden clearing the area near the walled garden.  The eventual aim being that it will be another nice wooded area in which to walk.  He’s also made a start on tidying up the driveway but at a third of a mile long, it’s slow progress!

Conference Venue

We’ve held several meetings and conferences here recently, one including the local MP.

Companies of all sizes find us ideal for smaller meetings and events.  It’s well suited if you have a strategic planning meeting or confidential business to discuss.  With only us here, there’s no fear of other companies knowing what you’re up to!

We usually hire the Gun Room as this has a large board room table for up to 16 people.  It has a fast Wi-Fi connection too.  Coffee can then be served in the Drawing Room and lunch in the Dining Room.

Give us a call if you’d like to discuss your next meeting or event with us.  Don’t forget we also have competitive corporate overnight rates and large grounds suitable for team building activities.

Give us a call to discuss your plans on 01286 830214

You may have seen on the news that the Queen visited Caernarfon Castle recently.  On the same day she travelled on the Welsh Highland Railway under our drive to Dinas station which is just five minutes away where she re-named a newly refurbished carriage.

As my parents were here visiting that day too, we all went for a walk with the dogs on the cycle path which runs alongside the track.  As we approached Dinas Station, our timing was perfect as the Queen arrived at the same time.

We saw her and Prince Phillip and it was amazing how close we were and how small the crowd was.  I’m sure someone on the train with her would have pointed out Plas Dinas as they passed reminding her that her sister used to stay here regularly.

The Great Drag Race

...and from one old Queen to another! Julian will be dressing up in drag in London on June 19th and walking 10.2km, along with hundreds of other blokes, to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer Research.

See full details / Sponsor Julian

Prostate cancer kills almost as many men as breast cancer kills women, yet there is still no routine screening and little awareness about a disease which Julian's father has thankfully recovered from.

By dressing up as women, we hope to "drag" the issue of prostate cancer into the spotlight and at the same time raise money to help save some lives.

Please consider sponsoring Julian, as he needs some encouragement to walk over 6 miles in heels and sequins! You can sponsor him for any amount and get more details for the event on the the Virgin Money Giving website.

Due to the overwhelming success of The Lodge, our self-catering property at the end of the drive, we are continuously letting people down as we’re already fully booked for most of the season.

As a result, we’ve created West Wing Cottage which will be available this season.  We had hoped to launch it in this newsletter but already we’ve booked ten weeks!  So if you want to stay self-catering and still enjoy our beautiful grounds, get your skates on.

You can book either cottage at www.plasdinascottages.co.uk

It is attached to the main house so there’s not far to walk if you want to enjoy a drink, breakfast or an evening meal with us.  It has an open fire and two bedrooms, one of which can be a twin or double.  Check out the new website for some pictures.

Faenol Festival

The dates have been announced for August Bank Holiday so make sure you book quickly as we are already getting booked up.

So if you're want to see anything from Westlife to opera, check out:

For those that read National Geographic, you may have spotted us in their Stay List 2010 recently.  We were one of only ten places to be chosen in Wales.  You can read the article HERE.

We have also been awarded the number 1 slot on www.Trivago.co.uk which looks at reviews from all over the internet, and talking of reviews, we have had some excellent Trip Advisor reviews lately – thanks to everyone who reviewed us.

Please keep the reviews coming – we need a few reviews for the Good Hotel Guide, Michelin Guide and also www.KarenBrown.com to ensure we are listed on them next year so get reviewing!

Finally, check out The Amateur Traveler who talk to John Clayton about a recent trip to Wales and Plas Dinas. John was the host of a radio travel show called “Travel with a Difference” for 16 years in the Los Angeles area and was invited to Wales by Visit Wales...

Definitely worth a listen (particularly about 19 mins in if your download the podcast!)
