Hello All Well where did the year go? In the blink of an eye 2009 is almost over and we’re into a new decade! All in all it’s not been a bad year for us. Despite a slow start to the year when everyone was panicking about the looming recession, things soon got back to normal when MPs expenses hit the headlines and everyone started spending again. We’ve had our best year yet and things are looking good for 2010. We’ve not been idle in 2009 with our complete refurbishment of the South and Princess Margaret rooms and we’ve just re-decorated the Drawing Room. The garden is coming along well and we’re starting to feel like we’ve achieved something. The panoramic views from "The Mount" over the sea are amazing now we’ve cleared it all back and the bluebells should look better than ever in spring. The Lodge has been busy this year and we’re pleased with how our first season has gone there. We already have 20% of next year booked up, and May is sold out, so if you’re planning a self-catering break then get your skates on and book! We only require a £75 deposit. You can now check if your chosen date is available and book online at www.plasdinaslodge.co.uk I (Andy) have been on crutches for the last two weeks following an accident where I fell on a glass and cut my leg muscle badly but I’m now walking unaided again and Julian is breathing a sigh of relief after doing the work of two! Wishing you a great Christmas and a happy New Year and we hope to see you all next year.

Drawing Room make-over… |
Still stuck for present ideas? |

As we’ve gone quieter now we’ve managed to fit in decorating the Drawing room. It’s now a traditional Georgian blue colour with the panelling and coving picked out in Regency White. It looks much fresher and bigger. We’re really pleased with it. We’ve also painted the fire place so it’s now back to its original white colour and is once again a focal point.
Those more observant of you will also notice our new chandeliers. They’ve really finished off the look and feedback so far has been very positive. We always love this time of year as the Christmas decorations are up too and with the roaring log fire it’s really cosy and homely. We’ve had a few private groups in during December for Christmas dinner in the Gun Room which makes for a really atmospheric dinner party. We also held our Halloween Murder Mystery event in there which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The Gun Room was also the focal point for a meeting recently. If you have an event in mind, don’t forget we can accommodate small groups in a variety of rooms with day delegate rates available as well as evening hire and private dining facilities. |

We had our first anonymous AA inspection a few weeks ago and are delighted to announce that they gave us an overall high scoring 4 stars. We gained 5 stars in many areas including cleanliness. The inspector commented that our strengths were “the warm and caring hospitality shown to guests, the quality of bedrooms and bathrooms and the thoughtful accessories and extras provided…with sound attention to detail”. Andy was very pleased to have been awarded an AA Dinner Award as “Dinner was enjoyable and showed good use of quality produce”. In addition, we have been nominated for a yellow star "Highly Commended" award as they feel we are in the top 10% of places in the UK in our category. This will be confirmed in May when they finish that year’s inspections. More news when we hear it… We are also pleased to be included in next year's Alistair Sawday's Special Places to Stay book, as well as the Good Hotel Guide for the 2nd year running. Finally, we've been shortlisted for next year's Michelin guide book, so we must be doing something right! |
