Dear all

At last summer finally seems to have arrived albeit a little late and North Wales has been bathed in sunshine for the past week and it looks set to continue for a least a while longer.

As we reach our thirteenth newsletter we haven't been as "unlucky" as we feared earlier in the year. Despite the downturn, our summer trade has been steady and had our busiest month ever in July. It’s just a shame we’ll soon be back to winter and much quieter again. However, read on for some great deals to tempt you back and enjoy all that Plas Dinas has to offer!

We’ve been so busy we’ve not had time to update all our regular readers on our news so there’s plenty to fit in this time round...

Our grounds are starting to look much improved thanks to our new gardener Gregg, who has recently graduated with a degree in Botany from Bangor University. He has made great progress on clearing the overgrown areas on "The Mount", opening up some fantastic panoramic views across the Irish Sea and the Menai Strait. Needless to say, he has his work cut out catching up on years of neglect but he's very keen and crucially is happy to work in any weather!

Launched this week is the new updated Plas Dinas Lodge website which now includes an on-line booking facility as well as next year’s prices and availability.  We’ve also got new beds in the twin room which can link together so if you are two couples travelling together you can both have super king beds.   So if you fancy a self catering break over the coming months look out for the special offer below and last minute weekend breaks!

We hope to see you again soon...

Andy & Julian.

Summit Reached...

Welsh Highland Railway Extension

After years of waiting, the new Snowdon summit café finally opened in June – called Hafod Eryri.  It means a summer residence (Hafod) in Snowdonia (Eryri).  It replaces the original café which dated back to 1935.  The new café, which blends beautifully into the landscape with its granite construction is open 8am – 8pm and will be a welcome site to walkers who reach the summit.  We’re only a 15 minute drive from the bottom of Snowdon where you can either walk up or catch the train.

Hafod Eryri

The views at the top can be spectacular – even half way up they’re pretty good!  We now provide the daily weather forecast in reception so you can check before you go out for the day but as the weather can change rapidly round here, it’s best to ask at the Snowdon Mountain Railway ticket kiosk what the weather is like at the top.

Conference Facilities...

Don’t forget we have facilities for meetings and conferences too. The Gun Room is ideal for board meetings for up to 12 people and the dining room is ideal for various types of event for up to 20 people.  We can provide buffet lunches and have the grounds which are ideal for breakout sessions and team building activities.
Give us a call to discuss your next meeting or event.

The Welsh Highland Railway runs underneath the top of our drive steaming its way along to Dinas station from Caernarfon.

It opened an extension to the line earlier this year.  The train now runs to Beddgelert and through the Aberglaslyn Pass (recently voted the ‘most scenic view in Britain’ - see pic on right).  This spectacular section of railway includes sweeping horseshoe curves, allowing trains to negotiate the steep 1 in 40 gradients before they head into the famous Aberglaslyn Pass, with its river crossing and dramatic tunnels where the line clings to a ledge high above the Glaslyn river.

The line is set to get even longer with a further extension next year which will lead right through to Porthmadog.  You will be able to change here onto the Ffestiniog Railway which runs from Porthmadog to Llandudno Junction which is also a main line station.  One of our guests pointed out that you will then be able to catch a train from London all the way to Dinas!

Christmas at Plas Dinas...

4 Stars for Lodge!

Andy has finally succumbed to Julian’s pestering and agreed that we could get a dog.  We’ve now had Patsy, a two and a half year old miniature Schnausser for 2 months and she’s settled in very well with acres of space to explore.

She’s spoiled rotten and just needs to stop barking at our arriving guests!

Don’t forget that we accept small well behaved dogs at Plas Dinas in our Deluxe rooms and charge £10 per dog per night.

They are welcomed with a “Doggie Pack” with some biscuits in it.  Our grounds are ideal for a trot round to walk off dinner whilst enjoying a fantastic sunset and panoramic views over the Irish sea from the end of "The Mount".

Autumn Offers...

As we approach the colder months with great speed having enjoyed our long hot summer (yes – all 7 days of it!) then you’re going to want cheering up!

SEPTEMBER: Book a break any time between Sunday & Thursday and get 25% off your B&B on a 2nd and/or 3rd night!

OCTOBER & NOVEMBER: Why not treat yourselves to a relaxing break with us and a good meal?  Book at least one night during October or November and get FREE desserts AND coffee with our compliments when you dine with us. Don’t forget we do not provide meals on a Sunday or Monday evening so if you prefer to stay on a Sunday or Monday, we’ll reduce your room rate by £20 instead!

Just mention the offer when booking online in the "Requests" box.

We’re renting out Plas Dinas on a self-catering basis again this Christmas and New Year.

If you are a large family or group of friends and would like to get together over the festive period, you can have the free reign of Plas Dinas and its ten ensuite bedrooms (sleeping 20). The house will be decorated beautifully as usual with Andy’s huge twinkling tree in the Drawing Room.  It looks great in winter with the fire roaring away.

Only £3500 inclusive (saving £2000!)
(if you book before end of October)
That's just £25 per person per night!

If you are interested, we just need a £500 deposit now and the rest payable at 8 and 4 weeks before.

Halloween Murder...

We’re celebrating Halloween this year with one of our regular murder mystery evenings.

There will be spooky goings on in the house so make sure you don’t miss this specially scripted evening.  The professional actors as ever will be acting out scenes between dinner courses and it’s up to you to figure out "Who Dunnit"!

Dinner is included in the price, as well as accommodation and breakfast based on two people sharing.

Hurry and book though, we only have limited places.  A £50 deposit is required on booking.

Visit Wales assessed our holiday cottage Plas Dinas Lodge for quality last week and they have awarded it with 4 Star Self-Catering.  We are really pleased to achieve this grade, although it came as no real surprise as we have carefully applied all the same standards as we do at Plas Dinas Country House.

We’ve had lots of feedback from guests who’ve stayed at the Lodge this year and been able to add lots of things so it really is home from home.

There’s now Sky + satellite TV so you'll never miss your favourite show and lots of new board games so even if the weather is bad you can light the fire and have a good time.  Don’t forget that children of all ages are welcome at the Lodge.

Take a look at the new website which has lots of new photos and information. We already have bookings for 2010 so if you want a specific week, get in there quick!

Lodge Deals...

We have an odd couple of weekends in the near future that are still available and have been reduced…

Saturday 26th September and Saturday 10th October have been reduced to £150 (saving £50) for a 3 night stay. That includes electricity, heating, linen & towels!

And don’t forget – if you book any week for 2010 before the end of October, we will honour this year’s prices! Just mention this newsletter when you book online!
