ISSUE TWELVE

APRIL 2009

Spring at last!

Well it was certainly a long time coming but spring is finally here I’m glad to say.  Winter seemed to go on forever – probably something to do with not having a summer at all last year.

The lambs are in the fields, the daffodils are starting to die off but the blue bells on the mount are now looking fantastic.  Andy’s been busy with the strimmer and there’s now more of our land to explore when you’re next visiting.  The idea is to create more of a woodland walk now the brambles have gone.

We’re hoping for much better weather this year and with the foreign exchange rates still poor I’m sure a lot of people will be choosing to spend more time in the UK and where better than picturesque Wales.  Andy was writing an article on the local area for a tourism site recently and had trouble deciding what not to mention as there’s so many things to do in the area.

We’ve plenty of news so grab a cuppa, sit in the sunshine in the garden and read on.

Nature watching...

Princess Margaret’s
Face Lift...

I produced a leaflet recently on birds that I’ve spotted in the grounds at Plas Dinas.  I have to admit – even I’m surprised how popular it has been.  It’s in the Dining room so most people take a look at it over breakfast – we’ve re-sited our bird feeders to the tree in front of the dining room window.

Lots of people have now seen our pair of greater spotted woodpeckers and enjoy identifying the different birds.

We cleaned out the bottom pond recently and there were lots of newts.  We’re thinking of getting some fish this year.  When he was strimming, we also spotted some holes in the lawn – we’re still unsure as yet if these were rabbit burrows or badger sets as we’ve seen both in the grounds.

The Princess Margaret suite has now been completely refurbished and is looking great.  Our new “Super Deluxe” room has a swish bathroom with a large walk-in shower with rain head and a two person roll top bath and has been redecorated in opulent red and gold stripes.

The bedroom has been completely redecorated and now also boasts a DVD library, a new comfy sofa, fresh fruit & flowers & a trouser press.  The room also now includes filter coffee, upgraded toiletries, slippers – we could go on!

We have a great offer for all our newsletter readers…book a stay before the end of May for 2 nights or more during 2009 and get the Princess Margaret Suite for the same price as a Deluxe!
Book on-line and note “OFFER PM010” in the comments box.

By the way, we’ve also found time to decorate the South Room too!

Cybermen invade!

Wedding to remember?!

Reiki Weekend...

Well, the monsters invaded a near by hotel actually.  We had all the VIPs staying with us instead.  It was the Celtic Media Festival in Caernarfon recently and so the Exec Producer, Director and Production Designer for Dr Who along with the Head of BBC Drama for Wales stayed with us.   Russell T Davies was also booked in but had to cancel at the last minute due to work commitments.

We’ve also had Sir William Gladstone stay with us recently – the grandson of the famous Prime Minister Gladstone.

Travel Writers...

Also, we’ve been chosen by Visit Wales to host a group of Canadian journalists soon and another group of American travel writers later in the year.

It’s great to be able to show off Plas Dinas and that Visit Wales feel we are the best in Wales to impress their guests and encourage future tourism to Wales.

We had a bit of drama recently when a groom fell ill on the night of his wedding.  We woke to find his new wife had driven him to hospital after having severe chest pains and a suspected heart attack!

It luckily turned out to be not so serious, however, they did miss their honeymoon.  They really enjoyed their wedding and felt our service was spot on so at least they were able to enjoy the big day.

Plas Dinas is the perfect location for wedding celebrations - see www.plasdinas.co.uk/weddings.
